Lyndon White Launches New Crowdfunded Fantasy Graphic Novel, ‘Candles’

Following the riotous success of his Lovecraftian concertina earlier this year, horror artist Lyndon White has launched a new crowdfunding campaign to support his latest project. This time funded through book specialist platform Unbound, this latest creative venture is a fantasy graphic novel called Candles.

The campaign was initially launched during the Lakes Comic Art Festival. As well as both digital and hardback copies of the book, backers have the opportunity to bag themselves some exclusive goodies from the book’s development, including original art pages and even full colour commissioned original pieces by Lyndon.

The graphic novel tells the story of Grace, a girl who sees the good that magic can do in a world where it has been exploited all too often for evil:

Generation after generation people are taught one thing, never use magic. The evil Witch has cast a plague known as Dark-bark over the land and one by one, infected villagers are lured into the enchanted forest never to be seen again. As a last resort to save her family, Grace embarks on a quest to steal the Witch’s magic and use it to save her dying village.

Meanwhile, Idris, a flamboyant sorcerer and his talented apprentice Ava, are outcasted from their town and begin to track the source of the Dark-bark. Wolves howl at the night sky and candles begin to glow. The Witch must be stopped at all costs, however, everything is not as it seems.

The book is expected to include over 100 pages of full colour comic, with an original story both written and illustrated by Lyndon, influenced by the Brothers Grimm fairytales.

Anyone who supports the project will get exclusive access to Lyndon’s creative process, and he will be updating his Unbound page regularly as the graphic novel takes shape. It already features sneak previews of what to expect from the final book.
