Creator Jeff Chiarelli Talks Team Survival Mode in ‘Dawn of Survivors’
Zombie horror survival game Dawn of Survivors launched earlier this year as one of the first games to take advantage of the fairly new Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
It has everything that you could want from a classic survival game, with some genuinely creative species of zombies thrown into the mix to spice things up a bit. Now, the creators have rolled out a host of new features specifically for multiplayer use.
We caught up game creator Jeff Chiarelli to find out more about what gamers can expect from the new Team Survival Mode.
Kirstie: Tell us about Dawn of Survivors.
Jeff: Dawn of Survivors is a zombie survival game. Players from around the world must scavenge for resources, fight hordes of zombies, and choose which other survivors to trust. Players can build their shelters with traps and barriers, meanwhile raiding other shelters, decayed cities, darkened forests and abandoned laboratories. Players face an endless amount of zombies with special abilities while also collecting and crafting various weapons. All in all, this is an intense game. It’s truly “survival of the fittest.”
Kirstie: Dawn of Survivors has been out for a little while now. What has the reaction to it been like so far?
Jeff: The response has been amazing! Players have given us a lot of positive feedback and are asking us for more updates. They even volunteered to create a Wiki page and other social media channels to help each other out. We have such a dedicated and supportive community and we are so grateful for them.
Kirstie: Has there been anything surprising or unexpected about how the game has been received in its first months?
Jeff: Like any developer, we hoped for the best but didn’t know what to expect. We were very surprised and humbled by how fast our community grew and how passionate they all are. We’re proud of the game and we have a stronger perspective of what players expect and want.
Kirstie: Tell us about Team Survival Mode.
Jeff: In Team Survival, two players can join up and share a shelter. They can raid and travel the world as one unit, collect resources and fight hordes of zombies and other players. Team Survival really makes players depend on each other. It is a very cooperative experience that requires strategy and communication. You have to trust the other player to watch your back and vice versa.
Kirstie: How much does Team Survival Mode change the game?
Jeff: The gameplay and mechanics remain the same, but the experience is totally different. Rather than being on your own and constantly worrying if you’ll survive the journey or your next raid, having a teammate can really take the pressure off and allow you to collect more resources and safely travel to other locations. Everyone could use a friend in these dark times!
Kirstie: How did you decide what features to include in the new multiplayer mode?
Jeff: We listened to our community and got their feedback. They’ve been so helpful and communicative. We really appreciate everything they tell us!
Kirstie: What for you is the most exciting thing about rolling out Team Survival Mode?
Jeff: It’s definitely going to be the community’s reaction. They’ve been patiently waiting for Team Survival and we can’t wait to see how they like it. Every time we share a little bit of information, their response is so positive! Plus, we know that players will reach out to others to join up, even people they might not necessarily know. We hope players will make new friends and have a great time.
Kirstie: Do you have any ideas for other new features you might include in the future?
Jeff: That’s our secret! But we’ll definitely let you know! We have a few ideas in mind.
We’d like to say a massive thank you to Jeff Chiarelli for talking to us and wish him the best of luck with Dawn of Survivors!
