Paul Thomas Anderson’s Oscar-nominated Phantom Thread was carried by two powerful lead performances, one from renowned actor Daniel Day-Lewis and the other from the lesser-known Vicky Krieps.
After missing out on a nomination at this year’s Academy Awards, the latter has now been cast in Fede Alvarez’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web.
Actress Vicky Krieps
The Girl in the Spider’s Web will act as a follow-up to David Fincher’s critically acclaimed remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, although it is not a direct sequel. Neither Daniel Craig nor Rooney Mara are set to reprise their roles and The Girl in the Spider’s Web will adapt the fourth novel in the Millennium series, rather than The Girl Who Played with Fire.
With Alvarez at the helm, the film is in good hands, (following Don’t Breathe’s commendable critical reception), and now that Krieps is on board, the cast looks as though it’s coming together nicely.
Also starring in The Girl in the Spider’s Web are Claire Foy (as Lisbeth Salander), Sverrir Gudnason (as Mikael Blomquist), and Sylvia Hoeks (as Lisbeth’s evil twin).
