‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’ Releases its Full Trailer

With a month to go until its June 4 release, the third installment of the blockbuster Conjuring series has just released its full trailer. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will see Ed and Lorraine Warren battling with demons as well as the legal system, as they fight to defend an accused murderer who claims he was acting under the influence of Satan.

Stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their roles as the real-life exorcists and investigators (and notorious frauds) Ed and Lorraine Warren. The film focuses on a real-life case, the first time a US court ever heard the defense of “not guilty by reason of paranormal possession”.

After two successful installments, James Wan is handing the franchise over to The Curse of La Llorona‘s Michael Chaves. However, Wan has a producer credit and wrote the story with screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.

Wan pitched this fresh take on the series as “Se7en, but in the Conjuring Universe”. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks set to take the Warrens into uncharted territory. It seems less like a traditional haunted house tale with a focus on family bonds and inherited trauma, and more like twisted tale of occult conspiracy. This widened scope is a bold move, but we welcome a fresh take on these characters, and it’s good to see that one of the most successful horror franchises isn’t resting on its laurels.
