Today Netflix released a teaser trailer for its new original series, The Innocents, which stars Memento’s Guy Pearce and Wizards vs. Aliens’ Percelle Ascott. The trailer is atmospheric and mysterious, boasting a polished visual aesthetic which is designed to capture the imagination despite minimal plot details.
From what we know so far, The Innocents will consist of eight episodes, six of which are being helmed by Farren Blackburn. Blackburn is a television director with credits for shows such as Doctor Who and Daredevil, so it will be interesting to see where he takes the series.
The story will revolve around two teenagers, Harry and June, who embark on a journey of self-discovery in order to escape their repressive family lives. As previously mentioned plot details are sparse, but according to HeyUGuys “the extraordinary gift they possess unleashes powerful forces intent on dividing them forever”.
This titbit of information would suggest that Harry and June aren’t your typical runaway teenagers, and that The Innocents will be something of a science-fiction teen romance rather than a traditional Romeo and Juliet story. Either way, the trailer generates a great deal of intrigue and gives us every reason to be excited for The Innocents’ release later this year, although an exact date is yet to be revealed.
