If the absurd gushing in our recent articles about the upcoming feature-length adaptation from Spyglass Media didn’t clue you in, we’re pretty fond of Hellraiser. Apparently the dark gods are smiling on us as we’ve recently learned that not only is a feature film in the works but that HBO are developing a TV series.
The series will be helmed by David Gordon Green, the director behind 2018’s Halloween reboot. In our opinion, this more than proves that he has the ability to reinvigorate a flagging franchise with a string of disappointing sequels behind it.
The series, described as “an elevated continuation and expansion” rather than a reboot, will be written by Mark Verheiden and Michael Dohery. The pair have credits including Ash vs. Evil Dead, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Trick R’ Treat, so they seem like very strong choices for a genre project.
While the TV and film projects are unrelated, it’s going to be very interesting to see them face off against each other. We’re intrigued to see whether a feature film or a TV series proves to be a better vehicle for the return of Pinhead.
