FX and Ryan Murphy Tease Update on the Future of ‘American Horror Story’

Season 8 of American Horror Story has had its setting revealed by FX during the The Television Critics Association’s Winter 2018 Press Tour. Writer Ryan Murphy has unveiled more details about the upcoming season but we are yet to know the date it will appear on our screens.

In a recent interview, Murphy claimed the setting for the latest season of the popular TV anthology series is “the future”. He said, “All I’ll say about it is I want to go to the future – still topical, but the future, which I’ve never done.”

“The future” is not necessarily specific in terms of place or time, but Murphy did specify where the season wouldn’t be. It won’t take place in space. How do we know? Because when asked about it, Murphy said, “Not space.”

He didn’t get into specifics with the press but apparently went into more detail for the FX executives. He said, “I pitched it to [FX chief] John Landgraf today right after his TCA panel, and he loved it, but he’s asked me not to say what it is.” Murphy then added, “I told him and he fell out of his chair with joy. I think people will like it, it’s different from what we’ve done before, but I always try and do the opposite of what I’ve done on that show.”

While it is never confirmed which particular actors will form the cast of the latest season until the trailers are released, there are rumours as to which ones will feature.

Murphy said,“I want all of them. I want Dylan [McDermott] and Connie [Britton] and Jessica [Lange]. They’ve all said – Kathy Bates, too – everybody who is involved in the show has always said, ‘Yeah, that sounds like fun; let’s get the band back together again.’ So that is one of the reasons why the writing process of that season is taking longer because it’s literally 25 people’s schedules. But I’m hopeful they will all be back.”

The final confirmation of the press tour came when Murphy answered the much anticipated question: when will the Murder House/Coven crossover happen? Murphy stated it will most likely happen in Season 9. He explained, “We’re working on it, but it’s not going to be… Season 8… it’ll probably be the one after that. We’ve already met about it and outlined it, but it won’t be next because some of the people are not available.”
