Looking for a read to take your mind off the grim December weather? Probably best to steer clear of Dan Simmons’ The Terror. The novel (which, like many of Dan Simmon’s books, has a girth that also makes it a formidable weapon or stout doorstop) is set aboard a royal navy ship trapped in the cruel ice of the Northwest Passage. If temperatures cold enough to make your teeth explode in your skull weren’t bad enough, the crew also has to contend with a mysterious and possibly supernatural predator. This week we got to see the trailer and the first images from AMC’s adaptation.
The show, which will be helmed by none other than Ridley Scott, will debut on March 26th 2018 and run for 10 episodes. Here is its first chilling teaser trailer:
Starring Jared Harris of The Crown and Tobias Menzies of Outlander, its executive producers Soo Hugh and David Kajganich describe The Terror as:
“A rare combination of fascinating history, complex and flawed characters, the inextinguishable human spirit and the horror and promise of an uncharted world.”
From these early release images, we can tell that The Terror is going to be full of period detail and boast an impressive visual scope. The dangerous and hostile arctic landscape is the real villain here, and Scott seems determined to showcase it in all its awe-inspiring glory.
