Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell Could Be the Latest Additions to ‘The Batman’

It feels as though every week there’s a new name being attached to the upcoming Matt Reeves Batman film. So, it makes sense that this week there isn’t just one bit of news but two. Originally reported by The Wrap, Andy Serkis, who we have to thank for bringing characters like Gollum from Lord of the Rings and Caesar from the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy, is in talks to play Alfred, the Dark Knight’s famed butler, and Bruce’s closest confidant. In the past, Alfred has been portrayed by Micheal Caine and Jeremy Irons, setting a high bar. This casting reaffirms that this version of the character most likely is of no relation to Ben Affleck’s Batman from Justice League.

Colin Farrell has also been reported by Deadline as being in talks to star in the film, supposedly as Penguin. Jonah Hill was originally a potential candidate for the character, until he later distanced himself from the film. In regards to other villains, Paul Dano was cast as the Riddler shortly after Jonah Hill’s departure.

Matt Reeves is beginning to assemble quite the cast for The Batman. Zoe Kravitz was recently cast as Catwoman, joining Robert Pattinson as he contributes the third rendition of the titular character in the last ten years. You can expect to see Robert Pattinson put on the cowl in the summer of 2021, although there will undoubtedly be plenty more news between now and then to follow.
