AMC’s adaption of Dan Simmons’s cult novel The Terror is set to land this March. Produced by Ridley Scott, this 10-part series will explore a very real historical incident where a Royal Navy expedition was lost trying to navigate the hazardous Northwest Passage. The newest trailer of The Terror has dropped and we have to say, it looks chilling.
In 1845, two ships departed England seeking the illustrious Northwest Passage, a sea route to the Pacific Ocean through the Arctic Ocean, along the northern coast of North America. By the winter of 1846, both ships had become trapped in ice with dwindling supplies and the threat of mutiny in the air. In his novel, Simmons adds a supernatural element to the plot; we don’t want to give too much away but, suffice to say, this was probably what attracted Scott!
Here’s the official synopsis for The Terror from the AMC website:
Inspired by a true story, The Terror, from executive producers Ridley Scott, David Kajganich and Soo Hugh, takes viewers on a harrowing journey. The story centers on the Royal Navy’s perilous voyage into unchartered territory as the crew attempts to discover the Northwest Passage. Faced with treacherous conditions, limited resources, dwindling hope and fear of the unknown, the crew is pushed to the brink of extinction. Frozen, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth, The Terror highlights all that can go wrong when a group of men, desperate to survive, struggle not only with the elements, but with each other.
The Terror will undoubtedly strike a chord with fans of AMC’s other horror series – The Walking Dead. The series stars include Jared Harris (Mad Men, 2007), Tobias Menzies (Outlander, 2014) and Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones, 2010).
