Sam Raimi Returns to Horror Directing with ‘Misery’-Meets-‘Castaway’ Project

We’ve grown accustomed to Sam Raimi‘s presence on a horror project being a mark of quality. From the 2013 Evil Dead remake to the nail-biting thriller Don’t Breathe, Raimi has consistently knocked it out of the park as a producer. However, Raimi hasn’t directed a film himself in 6 years, and his last horror movie was 2009’s Drag Me to Hell. We’re please to learn that Raimi intends to take the wheel on an upcoming horror project, and it’s one that sounds intriguing.

Currently untitled, the screenplay for this new project has been penned by Mark Swift and Damien Shannon, whose previous credits include 2009’s Friday the 13th and Freddy Vs. Jason.

Apparently we’re heading to a deserted island for a story that is being described as “Misery meets Cast Away“. Assuming that this means someone is about to be stranded on an island with an obsessive psychopath, is it too much to dream that this might end up being a Raimi-helmed remake of The Island of doctor Moreau? In all honesty – probably. But let us dream!

Raimi will be producing the film through his company Raimi Productions, along with Zainab Azizi. Andrea Giannetti will be overseeing for Columbia Pictures.
