Robert Eggers flexed his horror muscles with his directorial debut The Witch in 2015, easily blending supernatural horror with religious paranoia in order to unsettle his audience. Fast-forward to 2018 and Eggers is once again set to team up with A24 for the fantasy horror film The Lighthouse, which is set in Nova Scotia in the early 20th Century.
Eggers will both write and direct and today we have news that Robert Pattinson has joined the film’s cast, with the project set to go into production this Spring. Pattinson will have a leading role alongside The Florida Project’s Willem Dafoe, having recently appeared in the critically acclaimed Good Time and the western comedy Damsel.
The Lighthouse is yet to receive a release date or a detailed synopsis given that it is still in the pre-production stage, but the calibre of the people involved inspires a level of confidence. Robert Eggers is one of the most exciting directors working in horror today, and in Pattinson and Dafoe he has one actor who is finally finding his feet on the festival circuit and another who is hot off the heels of a third Oscar nomination.
The pieces are coming together, so we could be in for a treat when The Lighthouse hits theatres in the not-so-distant future.
