You can never have too much Nicolas Cage, that’s what we say. It’s a sentiment clearly shared by director Kevin Lewis, whose new film Wally’s Wonderland will see the eccentric actor facing off against Chuck-E-Cheese-style animatronic puppets. Filming began last week on the project, which is being described as ‘Pale Rider meets Killer Klowns From Outer Space‘.
The film will feature Cage as a humble janitor who finds himself trapped in a twisted amusement park overnight. Faced with a horde of evil animatronics, Cage must battle his way through to the morning.
Director Kevin Lewis said of the project:
“For me there was always one actor and one actor only who could make this movie work and that actor is Nic Cage. I’m thrilled to be working with him and can’t wait to see him go up against Wally and his gang of psychopathic misfits.”
There’s clearly a Five Nights at Freddy‘s vibe to this set-up, and we’re intrigued by a film that, like that game, taps into the unnerving quality of children’s entertainments. It’s worth noting that Blumhouse do have the rights to adapt a live-action version of Five Nights at Freddy‘s, but with their production dragging its feet it seems like Wally’s Wonderland might beat them to the punch.
Starring alongside Cage will be Emily Tosta, Beth Grant, Ric Reitz and Chris Warner. The film currently has no slated release date.
