Netflix Original has dropped their newest trailer for 1938 gothic novel Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. It stars Lily James as the lead heroine, and Armie Hammer as her troubled husband, alongside Ann Dowd and Sam Riley. It is also directed by horror veteran Ben Wheatley and is set to be released in the UK on October 21st.
When the last mainstream adaptation was made in 1940 by revered auteur Alfred Hitchcock, production laws demanded a rewritten ending. With this mind, fans of the dark novel are hoping the modern adaptation will remain loyal to the source material, which looks like it will keep the original twist ending.

The official synopsis reads: “A young newlywed arrives at her husband’s imposing family estate on a windswept English coast and finds herself battling the shadow of his first wife, Rebecca, whose legacy lives on in the house long after death.”
With various adaptations, including a stage play by Du Maurier herself, Netflix’s production looks set to introduce the story to modern audiences, with carefully placed suspension and subtle changes.
