New Cast Details Revealed for Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Manson Family Movie’
What isn’t clear, however, is which role Tarantino has Cruise pegged for. While Cruise seems like a good choice to play a charismatic cult leader like Manson for reasons that are obvious (and maybe best left unsaid for legal reasons), Manson’s right hand man Charles ‘Tex’ Watson is probably the meatier role. After all, Tex was the one who actually committed the murders, and his clean-cut all-American image is probably a better fit for Cruise visually.
Of course, these aren’t the only options. Our favoured role for cruise would be that of Vincent Bugliosi, the prosecutor who spun the murder trial into a narrative of drug-addled brainwashing that terrified Middle America and effectively killed the hippie era forever.
If Cruise joins the cast, he’ll be acting alongside Margot Robbie who has already been cast to play Sharon Tate in the film. Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt are also on the list to join the film, which is currently seeking a distributor. We imagine, with a cast like that, it won’t struggle to find one.
While he still writes scenes that display his mastery of dialogue and layered suspense (the opening scene of Inglorious Basterds), Tarantino’s modern output is often baggy and unsatisfying, lacking the whip-smart appeal of his early work and occasionally smacking of self-indulgence (the rest of Inglorious Basterds). That said, his films are consistently enjoyable, and always display flashes of his creative flair, even if they become fewer and further between as his career progresses. We’ll wait with interest to see what he makes of the Manson Family.
