The hotly anticipated upcoming BBC TWO/Amazon fantasy series Good Omens has just announced today that the part of the demon Beelzebub will be played by Anna Maxwell Martin (Becoming Jane, Poppy Shakespeare).
Martin will be joining an already star studded cast featuring the likes of David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch), Michael Sheen (Passengers, Masters of Sex), John Hamm (Baby Driver, Mad Men), Miranda Richardson (Churchill, An Inspector Calls) and Jack Whitehall (Bad Education, Fresh Meat). The six part series is set to release on Amazon Prime sometime in 2019, followed by a run on BBC TWO.
The Good Omens series, based on the critically acclaimed novel of the same name, is written by the late Sir Terry Pratchett and show runner Neil Gaiman. Its story centres around a young antichrist named Adam and explores how the coming of his eleventh birthday brings about the beginning of the end of the world. The armies of good and evil begin to mass for the final judgement upon the earth, and it is up to the unlikely friendship between a demon named Crowley and the Angel Aziraphale to try to hold off the apocalypse for just a little bit longer.
With Atlantis rising from the depths of the ocean, the sky raining down fish, and the four horsemen of the apocalypse speeding down the M25 on motorbikes, it should be one hell of a ride.
