Fans of the 7 year franchise are about to overcome an excruciating wait, as the last piece of Insidious’ quartet sings its final song.
January 2018 is kicking off a blood-pumping year of horror starting with Insidious: The Last Key. Chronologically, this film serves as a direct sequel to the 2015 prequel to director James Wan’s original Insidious (2010). However, The Last Key will be written by co-creator Leigh Whannell and directed by Adam Robitel.
Despite her death in the first film, viewers have been consistently led by the hand of the franchise’s most memorable character Elise Rainer, played by Lin Shane. Having been brought back to life in spectral form for Insidious: Chapter 2 and once again in the prequel that was Chapter 3, this time Elise will finally get the full spotlight she deserves in the new release.
Lin Shane, Insidious: The Last Key (2018)
The Last Key offers insight into our female protagonist’s terrifying past. In keeping with the series, the paranormal motion picture depicts Elise on a truly unsettling adventure. She receives a call from a man professing his house is haunted, only to discover later that the address is none other than her childhood home. In a bid to save an innocent family, Elise is forced to travel back to Five Keys. Alongside her, stand her comedic but noble companions Specks and Tucker, played by screenwriter Leigh Whannell and Angus Sampson, to face a demon she had unwittingly freed years before.
In the last of this supernatural thriller franchise, we are gently coaxed back to the unsettling yet albeit familiar feeling of the unknown. The tension is raised as we watch Elise, the Wonder Woman of the Underworld, who is usually so strong and independent, show true trepidation for the first time.
Insidious: The Last Key will be released on Friday 12th January 2018.
