Originally commissioned by Hulu, DC Vertigo graphic novel Sweet Tooth now seems set for a debut on Netflix. With eight one-hour episodes on the cards, this show about religious cults and human-animal hybrids might end up being one of the strangest shows on the platform.
Jeff Lemire‘s post-apocalyptic tale, which has earned the description ‘Mad Max meets Bambi‘ follows a half deer, half boy and a ragtag group of animal-children hybrids. Their search for answers (and sweets!) takes them on a journey through a ravaged landscape populated by murderous cultists.
The show will star Christian Convery, Nonso Anozie, Adeel Akhtar, Will Forte, and James Brolin as the voice of the narrator.
There is as yet no release date, and it is not clear whether the show is intended for live action or animation. The outlandish visuals of the comic make it seem like animation is the likeliest format, but the prospect of achieving the necessary effects with make up is certainly intriguing.
